What is Wellness Coaching?

While the term “health” is generally associated with Wellness, it is a totally different construct when used within the paradigm of Wellness coaching.  Within the Wellness coaching model, “Wellness” is concerned more with the mind-body or holistic approach to health, including such things as happiness in one’s job or career, or making enough money to live a desired lifestyle; or feeling the need for more support from family, friends, spouse or significant other; or even dealing with an emotional or spiritual unhappiness that seems to sustain you like the closest friend?

Wellness is everything about living well in a very conscious way.  According to the National Wellness Institute, “Wellness is a process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a more successful existence”.  In other words, Wellness is the experience of living life with high levels of awareness, conscious choice, self-acceptance, interconnectedness, love, meaning and purpose . . . everything you do, every decision you make, every thought you think, and every attitude and belief you hold affects your health and wellness.  Wellness then becomes your individual life’s journey.

The process toward Wellness includes identifying the reasons that you are not happy or making healthy choices and working to eliminate those obstacles while also creating new habits and opportunities that move you toward the ideal life that you desire.

Thus, Wellness coaching is about helping you to recognize and remedy what may be holding you back from achieving a desired goal or lifelong dream.  It’s about helping you to figure out what motivates you and what will help you to make the desired lifestyle changes now as well as to sustain the new lifestyle changes in the future.  It’s about helping you to engage, implement and achieve a more successful existence.  It’s about helping you to connect the dots between who you are now and who you want to be.

Wellness coaching is not about telling you what you should do, but rather it is about helping you to unlock your hidden potential and to discover your very best self.

Finally, your Wellness coach is your mentor, guide, sounding board and cheering section that will walk with you every step of the way, keeping you aligned with the new Wellness path that you have chosen.
