OUR DREAM . . THE BEGINNING!

 The Realization of a Dream  . . .

The Journey to the realization of the Hands-of-Faith Holistic Healing Centers began almost 30 years ago.  Long before Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s; even before Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) as we know it today, I had a dream of opening an “(W)holistic Healing Center.” This Center would be staffed by alternative health care practitioners such as Naturopaths, Acupuncturists, Massage Therapists and more.  There would also be an organic food deli and juice bar where you could purchase food items such as tasty salads, veggie burgers and healthy fresh juice concoctions.  All of the food items served in the deli would be grown at the Center’s “(W)holistic Healing Farms and Gardens”.

I believed that this dream was possible because as I was pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from DePaul University, I recall learning that all one needed was a good business plan, and the SBA (Small Business Association) would lend the capital necessary to get a business started.  So, during this class I drafted the business plan for my “(W)holistic Healing Center” and I do believe that I earned an “A” in that class.  Anyway, off to the SBA I went, with my splendidly drafted business plan in hand.  Armed with a brilliant idea and the fact that I was only asking for $30,000, I was confident that I would not be turned down.  Boy was I in for a rude awakening.

Not only did they turn me down, but they insulted me by saying that I was too young, without the necessary skills; and further, that I needed at least $1 million dollars to get this idea off the ground.  They offered no assistance of any kind; and basically told me that I might possibly re-visit the idea once I grew up.  Disillusioned that my dreams and hopes had been crushed, not to mention that I was recently divorced with three young children to raise, I put away my business plan and found a “job” in Corporate America.

I thank God every day that my Dream remained alive within my spirit.  You see, I have always been a healer of sorts.  Even at the age of five, I was mixing up healing potions and feeding them to my siblings and neighbor children.  Anything in the medicine cabinet was fair game and this stuff would always find its way into my healing potions, even castor oil.  My brothers and sisters were my victims, and most times not so willing, but as the eldest, I made them drink my wonderful healing potions.  Suffice it to say, they all survived and are still healthy today.

I do believe that my primary preoccupation with healing was to help others heal physically because I had spent the first ten years of my working life working in the ER and also as an ECG technician in the local hospital trauma center; always running with my crash cart to Code Blues or Code 99s . . . so much death and dying!

During the ensuing years my life took many twists and turns, but my penchant for healing has finally been realized as the Hands-of-Faith Holistic Healing Centers.  The Hands-of-Faith Holistic Healing Centers is a tranquil, therapeutic sanctuary that nurtures total mind-body wellness.  In our peaceful retreat, we offer a variety of healing modalities including, but not limited to, Naturopathic assessment, support and care, Therapeutic Massage, Reiki Energy Healing, Hypnotherapy, Health & Wellness coaching, or a combination of services. We invite you to call and schedule your transformation of Mind, Body & Spirit. We also provide Health and Wellness coaching along with self-help education in natural health matters.

As we continue to learn, grow and form strategic partnerships with other alternative health practitioners, it is our sincere effort to bring you the absolute best in holistic healing.  We would be honored if you would allow us to assist you along your healing journey.  Please feel free to contact us for a consultation or appointment at faith@hands-of-faith.com or (630) 416-9632.

We welcome you to read more about us below:

At the Hands-of-Faith Holistic Healing Centers, we believe that Holistic healing is an approach to health and wellness that takes into consideration the whole person, addressing their physical, mental and emotional health and well-being, spiritual values, social lifestyle and interaction with the environment. Holistic (or “wholistic”) health is based on the natural principle that the whole is comprised of inter-reliant parts, and that when one part is not functioning at optimum levels it impacts all of the other parts. Holistic healing focuses on all parts of a person, not just the physical portion where ailments are most obvious. Physical symptoms can be alleviated by taking medication, but unless the whole person is treated the actual problem still exists. Holistic healing goes beyond merely treating symptoms and instead uses them as a guide to address the root cause of the problem. Being healthy is more than just not being sick!

Holistic healing principles can be applied to any type of issue and support the body’s natural health and healing system. For example, if we are feeling anxious or worried, these feelings can easily translate into short-term physical distress such as stomach issues, headaches or various aches and pains. Long-term stress has a more devastating effect on our health, as suppressed anger, frustration and a feeling of lack of control or power over one’s life can manifest into a more serious illness or disease. A holistic healer understands that distress is an indication of an imbalance in our system and considers all aspects of a person in evaluating the condition and appropriate treatment, rather than merely looking at outside sources as the cause of the problem. Imbalances can stem from unhealthy lifestyle choices such as a poor diet, lack of exercise and sleep deprivation as well as from unfulfilled emotional, mental and spiritual needs.

An ongoing process and approach to life rather than just centering on individual issues, holistic healing involves us in every aspect of the mind, body and spirit relationship. With an objective of achieving optimum health and wellness, a holistic healer leads us on a journey of self-discovery and engages us in taking an active role and responsibility with regards to everyday choices. Because the cells in our bodies are continually being replaced and are developed from what currently exists in the body, it is essential that we become aware of the effects of our choices. Unhealthy foods, harmful substances, a toxic environment and negative attitudes can result in flawed or damaged cells, resulting in healthy cells being replaced with sickly cells and ultimately leading to illness or death. Seemingly insignificant choices made each day accumulate in the mind and body and establish our quality of life now and in the future. The focus and goal of holistic healing is to achieve the highest overall level of health and wellbeing through thoughtfully considered choices.

  1. I began visiting Hands of Faith a year ago. I had been getting monthly massages from the same therapist for eight years (the only therapist I had ever gone to so I didn’t know what I was missing). A friend of mine recommended Hands of Faith and I have never looked back.
Each session begins by choosing an aroma that soothes your senses. This is used during the massage. The massages begin with some relaxation techniques and I can quickly feel myself becoming revitalized. I have had the most relaxing massages of my life. There is great care given to areas that need extra focus. I am always amazed at the valuable advise I am given and the detailed notes taken. I find myself waiting anxiously for my next massage and am thrilled that Hands of Faith has become part of my life.
